Putting the “booo” in Bonnaroo

Sometimes I hate being right all the time. As predicted here, the big Bonnaroo announcement was the addition of Widespread Panic to the lineup. Lame.

Odds are, I’ll be drinking not-so-cold beverages in my tent during their set. Do I need to justify myself for skipping out on the hippie noodlers? Absolutely not. But I will.

This is a picture of Widespread Panic. Try as you may, but you won’t find a more unattractive looking band. Take a mental snapshot, and cue it up in your head whenever you need to get rid of an inconvenient erection.

Of course, a band should never be judged by appearance alone. That’s why I’m also entering into evidence the first song on Widespread Panic’s latest release, a track titled “Boom Boom Boom.”

I know what you’re thinking, it sounds like a puff-by-numbers Grateful Dead C-side. But hey, at least give these guys an ounce of credit for paying homage to the greatest band in the known universe.

Come on, Bonnaroo people. Why couldn’t you have booked Flight of the Conchords again this year? I would have even settled for just Jemaine and the tape.

Even though it’s not alive, at least it’s more compact, easier to carry, and more cost efficient (no subway fees).

  • Say what?

I humbly disagree. Who cares what they look like? If you don’t like one of their songs they have a huge catalog with diverse styles. Sure to find a gem. And, their musicianship is legendary.

To each his own. Are you Kanye West fan?

  • So, you don’t like Widespread? You sound like the type of narrowminded guy who kept “Chicago” playing all those years…..oh wait, they STILL tour. Good job.

  • exactly the original post is from a complete tool…
